Produced from mulberry silkworms (Bombyx mori), this silk became one of the Bengal economy's most valuable exports, greatly enriching the region. To this day, the ancient art of silk weaving is carefully restored in Murshidabad and visitors on this tour will get a chance to witness this intricate craft firsthand. This tour will visit villages where the local artisans are still manufacturing the world-famous Murshidabad silk, known for its high quality, light texture, and ease of drape. They can touch, feel and fall in love with this textile with numerous beautiful Baluchari and Gorod saris that are hand-woven beautifully. The tour will also take you to handicraft villages which produce traditional metal work of Kasha utensils. During this tour, guests can not only see these things being made, but also buy unique hand-crafted Kasha utensils as souvenirs. Almost two hundred years ago, there existed a small village called Baluchar in Murshidabad district where the weaving technique practiced by the villagers came to be known as Baluchari. In the 18th century, the then Nawab of Bengal, Murshid Kuli Khan shifted his capital from Dhaka to Murshidabad.
